A TESOL Symposium in Danang, Vietnam
Based on Vietnam’s
National Foreign Language 2020 Project (NFL 2020), this TESOL symposium will be the first of its kind in Vietnam. TESOL International Association will bring six speakers from around the world to talk about English language teaching innovation, implementation, and sustainability.
This symposium will focus on the drive to increase language proficiencies for students and teachers. You will participate in hands-on training that you will immediately be able to implement in your classrooms or use in your university studies.

Speaker Bios
Jill Boggs is a doctoral student at the University of Oxford, researching how feedback can increase the grammatical accuracy in the writing of second-language learners. She is a teaching assistant for the University of Oxford’s MSc Teaching English in University Settings. She is passionate about using research to solve real-world classroom problems.
Anne Burns is professor of TESOL, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and professor emerita in language education at Aston University, Birmingham, England. She has worked with many teachers internationally and has published extensively. She is known for her work in teacher education and action research.
Hoang Van Van is a professor of linguistics and dean, School of Graduate Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. He received his doctorate in linguistics from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. He is well-known as chief author of the English textbook series for Vietnamese upper secondary schools and the 10-year English textbook series for Vietnamese schools under the NFLP 2020.
Le Thi Giao Chi is a senior lecturer, and a vice-dean, English Department, University of Foreign Language Studies, University of Danang, Vietnam. She completed her doctorate in applied linguistics at University of the West of England, UK, in 2014. She embraces nontraditional teaching techniques and widely adopts role-play and project-based learning as tools to advance student learning and experience.
Pham Thi Hong Nhung obtained an masters degree and her doctorate in applied linguistics from the University of Queensland, Australia. She is a full-time lecturer and deputy rector of Hue University of Foreign Languages. She has 18 years of experience in training English language teachers and has published widely in the fields of language education and applied linguistics.
Rosemary Orlando is a professor at Southern New Hampshire University, in Hooksett, New Hampshire, USA, and teaches in the Masters TEFL degree program, and in the Intensive English Program teaching both graduate and undergraduate students. She is also an English language teacher trainer at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Thai Bao Duy is currently the convener of the Vietnamese Programs of School of Culture, History and Language in the College of Asia and the Pacific, the Australian National University. He received his doctorate from the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and his research lies at the intersection of contemporary critical theories and reality of language use, language change.
Lillian L. C. Wong has a doctorate in applied linguistics and is a senior lecturer in the Center for Applied English Studies, University of Hong Kong. She is coordinator of the Graduate School English Program and teaches English for academic and specific purposes and information technology in language teaching and learning at undergraduate, postgraduate, and teacher education levels.
