In this academy, you will analyze the CCSS expectations for student writing, design writing prompts, and create formative assessment tools. The presentation includes demonstrations of ways to use various multimodal resources to facilitate practice in explaining, analyzing, and synthesizing information. You will also develop sample formative assessments to track students’ progress.

Who Should Attend?

  • identify and analyze writing prompt–paired (visual and textual) resources (e.g., fiction and nonfiction picture books)
  • develop writing prompts, including choosing multimodal resources that address content topics
  • create an appropriate formative assessment tool (e.g., checklists, rating scales, or rubrics) to assess student writing progress toward meeting a standard
