The Warp and Woof of Writing: More than Text Alone Empowers Student Writers (N-3)

Can your ESL students meet the academic writing demands of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)? In this academy, you will analyze the CCSS expectations for student writing, design writing prompts, and create formative assessment tools. The presentation includes demonstrations of ways to use various multimodal resources to facilitate practice in explaining, analyzing, and synthesizing information. You will also develop sample formative assessments to track students’ progress.

Who Should Attend?

ESL/ELD and content teachers, Grades 3–8 ESL/ELD and ELA curriculum specialists, focusing on ELLs
