TESOL Member Resolution on the Need for Qualified Full-Time Teachers (1981)

Whereas high-quality ESL programs must be available to nonnative speakers of English to assure them a reasonable chance of achieving proficiency in English, and

Whereas part-time teachers by the nature of their employment are under constraints which prevent their full participation in programs for which they are only provisionally hired,

Therefore Be it Resolved by the assembly of TESOL that a significant majority of the faculty in any ESL program be full-time employees qualified in teaching ESOL, and

Be it Further Resolved that this resolution be published in the TESOL Newsletter, and

Be it Finally Resolved that the Executive Secretary of TESOL distribute this resolution to appropriate academic officers of administrators when individual TESOL members so request.
