The new Strategic Plan was approved the Board of Directors in March 2018, and went into effect on 1 November 2018. Annually TESOL leadership develops priorities and measures of success for each Outcome. These priorities and TESOL's budget form the guiding documents under which TESOL operates for the year. The following are the priorities for FY2021 (1 November 2020 - 31 October 2021).
Outcome 1: Global Presence and Connectivity
Strengthen connections and partnerships in the global TESOL community and increase engagement with and among TESOL members, and other English language teaching professionals from diverse backgrounds.
Outcome 2: Knowledge and Expertise
Develop innovative materials and models of professional learning for TESOL members and ELT professionals.
Outcome 3: Voice and Advocacy
Amplify the voice of TESOL professionals with policy makers, media, and other stakeholders.
Inform and empower TESOL professionals globally to be effective advocates for their students, their programs, themselves, and one another.
Outcome 4:Sustainability
Ensure sufficient revenue generation along with diversity and innovation of revenue resources to minimize debt during the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Increase equity and inclusion of underrepresented groups within the organization's leadership pipeline.
